If you’ve seen the book trailer for my middle grade novel, A WHOLE NEW BALLGAME, you know who Reece is. Well, Reece needs our help.
Reece Simmons is a fifth grader at Hamilton Elementary in Cypress-Fairbanks ISD in Texas. He was one of the students who helped make this awesome book trailer.
Reece was born with Cerebral Palsy, but as his school library media specialist, Jennifer Lucas, wrote in this beautiful post on Mr. Schu’s Watch. Connect. Read site this past summer, it’s not something that slows him down. Reece is fearless, determined, outspoken, and optimistic.
Reece attends an after school program at a local gymnastic/sports academy. Recently, the facility installed a new zip line. Reece went to the coaches and owner and told them this wasn’t exactly fair to the special needs kids since they couldn’t use it. So Reece suggested a swing.
The idea for the “Simmons Flyer” was born.
The following day, Reece helped measure the gym and then had a meeting with the owner. Reece wants to help pay for his swing, the Simmons Flyer. He’s set up a GoFundMe Page, and in just a few days, he’s already more than half way to his goal. No donation is too small!
In this season of giving and caring, let’s help Reece fly!
Peace,
Phil
